For the past two years, Hometown Outreach has existed in the truest sense of the word “community.” We started as neighbors helping neighbors—delivering groceries, checking in on seniors, offering rides, and showing up when someone needed a friendly face at their doorstep. None of it was formal. All of it was funded from our bank accounts. It was simply people caring for people because that’s what small towns do best.
As our volunteer base grew and the needs in Madison County became more visible, we realized something important: what we were building mattered. Families were relying on us. Seniors were waiting for us. Our neighbors trusted us. And with every delivery and every connection made, it became clear that this work was bigger than any one of us.
Becoming a nonprofit wasn’t about changing who we are—it was about protecting and strengthening what already existed. Forming Hometown Outreach as an official organization allows us to secure resources, partner with other community groups, expand volunteer opportunities, and reach even more households who need support. It ensures we can operate sustainably, responsibly, and with the transparency our neighbors deserve.
What hasn’t changed is our heart. We are still the same grassroots network of Outreachers showing up with compassion, hope, and consistency. We are still committed to serving quietly, kindly, and without judgment. And as we step into this new chapter, we’re excited for the ways we’ll continue to grow—together.
Thank you for believing in this mission and for helping us build a stronger, more connected Madison County.
